Person-centred Therapy, also known as client-centred counselling, is a humanistic approach that is formed on the belief that every person is unique and, therefore, everyone’s view of his or her own world, and their ability to manage it, should be trusted. During therapy, I will be a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgement and acknowledging your experience without moving the conversation in another direction.
I am here to encourage and support you without interrupting or interfering with your process of self-discovery, as you uncover what hurts and what is needed to repair it.
Gestalt Therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that helps clients focus on the present to understand what is actually happening in their lives, and how it makes them feel in the here and now. It looks at how your past affects and influences how you’re feeling in this moment, rather than how you felt back then.
Along with Person-Centred and Existential Therapy, it is one of the primary forms of Humanistic Therapy. Creative tools like role-playing may be used for deeper exploration.
Transactional Analysis is a form of psychotherapy that looks at how we speak and respond to others, and at the roles we play. Its goal is to improve these interactions so they become healthy and balanced. TA enables you to understand and analyse your personality and your relationship with others around you.
You develop insight into your thoughts, feelings and behaviours - as well as your unexplored potential. With this new insight, you are able to recognise your value and self-worth.
TA is helpful in its ability to improve relationships, reduce conflict and improve individual life satisfaction and self-esteem.
ACT is an action-oriented approach to psychotherapy that stems from traditional behaviour therapy and CBT. The theory behind ACT is that it is counterproductive to try to control painful emotions or psychological experiences; suppression of these feelings ultimately leads to more distress. ACT adopts the view that there are valid alternatives to trying to change the way you think, and these include mindful behaviour, attention to personal values and commitment to action.
By taking the steps to change your behaviour while, at the same time, learning to accept your psychological experience (dropping the struggle), you can eventually change your attitudes and emotional state.
MBT is a type of talking therapy that focuses on learning how to be more aware of thoughts, feelings, emotions, surroundings, and situations, and to reduce automatic responses.
SFBT is a short-term, goal-focused,evidence-based therapeutic approach incorporating positive psychology principles and practices, which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems.
In the most basic sense, SFBT is a hope-friendly, positive emotion-eliciting vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioural change.
CBT works on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected; and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a negative cycle.
CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems more proactively by breaking them down into smaller parts and if necessary by challenging non-objective beliefs. CBT deals with your current problems rather than focusing on issues from your past. Sessions focus on exploring and developing methods that deal with daily challenges and behavioural patterns.
CBT is a short-term, goal-oriented therapy that teaches you how to improve your negative patterns by changing how you feel about what you think, and how you behave.
